The Equity in Health Systems (EqHS) Lab is a collaborative research community founded by Dr. Jerry Maniate. Focused on driving equity, accessibility, and belonging within health systems, EqHS brings together healthcare leaders, patient partners, and learners to create socially impactful research and initiatives.

The Challenge

EqHS needed an improved digital platform that reflected its mission of inclusion and innovation. Their site had to serve multiple roles: a public-facing resource, a learning platform, and a private hub for members. Accessibility, ease of use, and flexibility were important - especially for a community focused on reducing systemic barriers.

The Solution

We developed a fully custom WordPress theme tailored to EqHS’s mission and audience. The responsive design supports video, podcast content, and cross-platform compatibility, while also integrating accessibility features for inclusive access.

To support internal collaboration, we implemented a secure member login system and role-based access controls. This allowed for restricted areas within the site for lab members and research collaborators.

We also integrated LearnDash to power their online learning modules, setting up both free and premium course options. This included payment gateway configuration to support future monetization of learning content.

Our team provided two full design directions, complete with multiple layout options, and collaborated through several rounds of refinements to arrive at a final look that aligned with EqHS’s values and goals.

We continue to support EqHS as they grow their community and develop new digital strategies.
