If your website uses the free version of the Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) plugin, please read this important update.
Recently, the free version of ACF was forked and replaced with a new version on WordPress.org. This new version, managed by Matt Mullenweg, has not been reviewed or approved by the original ACF team at WP Engine. As a result, websites using the free version of ACF may be exposed to potential security and performance risks.
What should you do?
If your website is hosted on WP Engine, Flywheel, or if you are using ACF PRO, no action is needed.
For websites using the free version of ACF on other platforms, we recommend reverting to the trusted version of ACF managed by the original team. You can follow the step-by-step instructions to safeguard your site.
If your website has already been updated to the new “Secure Custom Fields” plugin, you can still revert back to the original ACF version without losing any data or configuration by following the same process.
Taking action promptly will help ensure the stability and security of your website.
